Welcome to the start of a new curling year.
To quote Lynne Lester, one of our Past-Presidents, “we have one of the best curling clubs in Ontario due to the generosity of our members and our community in donating their time and money.”
Albeit, our Club is not without its challenges:
Like other sports clubs such as golf, our membership has been in decline over the past few years. Many of the senior curlers have left the game because of travel plans or other life changes while young families have to make choices where they spend their limited time and money.
The Beaverton Curling Club is a non-profit entity, and like most, we rely on the on-going support of our existing membership while striving to attract new members. Without member support, we could be one major misfortune away from having to close the doors.
Compared to many curling clubs we are in an enviable position. We are strengthened by truly devoted individuals on our Board of Directors, and with their efforts and talents we are in a good position to build on our success.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ryan Lloyd, former Beaverton Curling Club manager, for his years of service to the Beaverton Curling Club. Ryan has left some big shoes to fill.
Having said that, I would like to introduce you to our new club manager, Jason Kuehl. Many of you already know Jason as he has been an engaged participant and member at the Beaverton Curling Club for the past 4 years. He is eager to contribute to the club’s overall success and to positive participant experience.
I would be remiss not to mention how fortunate we are to have Terry Clayton continue on our Board. As the Director in charge of Building Maintenance, Terry’s persistent and dedicated efforts are highly valued. Some of the latest improvements to the club include; emergency side door replacement, foundation protection from water leaks, a new bar safe and new thermostat controls
